Logbook 2026
Day 1

My first day in Locarno can be summed up in one word - overwhelming.
Let me explain. I woke up this morning feeling quite unwell, but I was still determined to make it to Locarno. The air conditioner in the trains was better than the alternative (stewing in a tin can) but given that I had a cold, I arrived in Locarno sniffling and coughing and quite unprepared for the wall of heat that I walked into. But I also walked into the most breathtaking view of mountains almost everywhere I turned, not to forget the sparkling water of the lake. So overwhelming about sums it up!
The rest of the day was spent in meeting my fellow science ambassadors in person for the first time - Ana Maria, Yusuf, and Jan. We had a drink and dinner together at Selz (apparently an iconic location for film festival goers).
By this time my cold was threatening to get the better of me, so I made my way back to the school where we were staying intending to rest up and recover for what was clearly going to be a whirlwind trip ahead.
